1 Sm 18: 6-9; 19: 1-7

Ps 56: 2-3. 9-10a. 10b-11. 12-13

Gospel MK 3:7-12

Jesus withdrew toward the sea with his disciples. A large number of people followed from Galilee and from Judea.
Hearing what he was doing, a large number of people came to him also from Jerusalem, from Idumea, from beyond the Jordan, and from the neighborhood of Tyre and Sidon. He told his disciples to have a boat ready for him because of the crowd, so that they would not crush him. He had cured many and, as a result, those who had diseases were pressing upon him to touch him. And whenever unclean spirits saw him they would fall down before him and shout, "You are the Son of God." He warned them sternly not to make him known.

Good News to All

Jesus had come to bring good news to the poor and who were in bondage. He did it by his teachings, healings and casting out the evil spirits. Even though he would sternly warn them not to speak about him all those who had experienced his love and concern could not but proclaim his greatness, the kindness and the love he had for all of them.

Jesus was going about doing the will of his father by bringing about Good News to all. This resulted in his great popularity. He put the occasion to teach them great lessons of love and concern for all.

Our presence, the presence of the Christians should be such that brings good news to others. Our words, deeds and attitudes have to be such that those around us get enhanced in their life situations.

If one’s such words and actions lead one to name and fame s/he should use it to bring about good news to more and more people. When Mother Theresa went up to receive the Noble Prize for peace she was bold enough to tell the world that abortion is murder. This should help in the buildup of the Kingdom of God for the establishment of which Jesus had come on to the earth, to our midst.

The very purpose of Jesus’ coming to the world was to bring about wellness in the life of all. Same is the mission of all the Christians. We the Christians exist for bringing about wellness in the life of all the people. We begin this by doing it in us, to the people close to us, who come in contact with us.

Let us be the servants and agents of his Good News.
