Monday of the 26th Week in Ordinary Time

Zechariah 8:20-23;

 Psalm 87:1-7;

Gospel LK 9:46-50

An argument arose among the disciples about which of them was the greatest. Jesus realized the intention of their hearts and took a child and placed it by his side and said to them, "Whoever receives this child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me. For the one who is least among all of you is the one who is the greatest." Then John said in reply, "Master, we saw someone casting out demons in your name and we tried to prevent him because he does not follow in our company." Jesus said to him,”Do not prevent him, for whoever is not against you is for you."

Feast of St. Theresa of Child Jesus

Ministry of Intercession

‘Launching out into the whole world from the centre.’ It is not the motto of any IT company, but the summary of the life of St. Theresa of Child Jesus, whose feast we celebrate today. She became the ‘Patroness of missions, even though she had never gone out the convent for preaching. In fact she became the patroness of Missions by Praying for the Missions and missionaries. And she offered her sufferings along with the sufferings of Jesus for the good of whole world. In other words, St. Theresa was engaged in the Ministry of intercession.

Ministry of intercession means committing oneself to pray for others incessantly and offering the sufferings we have for their good. Intercession ministry could be one of the greatest acts of love that we can perform. It is equal to sacrificing our life for the other. Because, in doing intercession we are spending our time for the other, our energy for the other and so on. So prayer of intercession is equal to a sacrifice.Moreover, there is not a bit of selfishness in praying for others. We are not praying for any of our wants or needs. We are completely praying for someone else’s need.

This world is in need of our prayer support. In this world there are orphaned children, youth under different addictions, the sexually exploited women and children, the countries with civil war and so on; we may not be able to reach them all physically but can reach them through our prayers as St. Theresa of Lisieux did. Jesus is willing to answer the prayers of any of us who asks from him incessantly (Ref. widow and judge).
