Tuesday of the 26th Week in Ordinary Time

Exodus 23:20-23

Psalm 91:1-6, 10-11

The disciples approached Jesus and said,
"Who is the greatest in the Kingdom of heaven?"
He called a child over, placed it in their midst, and said,
"Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children,
you will not enter the Kingdom of heaven.
Whoever humbles himself like this child
is the greatest in the Kingdom of heaven.
And whoever receives one child such as this in my name receives me.

"See that you do not despise one of these little ones,
for I say to you that their angels in heaven
always look upon the face of my heavenly Father."

Feast of Holy Guardian Angels

Whose Guardian Am I?

A tiger used to see a fox carrying eatables everyday to the den of a lion. The curious tiger peeped into the den of the lion and saw an ailing lion that was fed by the fox. The tiger praised Lord for sending an angel in the form of a fox to the lion. Few days later, the tiger himself felt bit sickly and didn’t feel like going to hunt. Instead the tiger prayed to God to send the guardian angel to feed him. After few days of starvation, the tiger was nearing death expecting the guardian angel and he complained to God “Why no one came to me with food?”God replied, “After you have seen the lion and fox I was expecting that you would become like the fox giving food to the needy.”

Today we are celebrating the feast of Holy Guardian angels, to whom many of us express our devotion through prayers and novenas. But today the million dollar question is “Whose Guardian angel am I?”

The first responsibility that God entrusted human beings after creation was to take care of the universe around us, to be a ‘guardian angel.’ The first question that God asked the human society though the incident of Cain and Abel was a call to be a Guardian Angel. Moreover, the only Prayer that Jesus prayed affirmed the fact that He was a guardian to the people around Him (Jn 17:6-12). Can I be the Guardian angel to the people around us who are in need and exploited; to the women, to the children, to the poor, to the sick, to the aged, to the lonely, to the desperate and so on.

The only requisite to be a Guardian Angel is that we must be someone who is looking at the face of the heavenly Father always (Mt 18:10). Once we start to live so, the loving God will raise us to be a Guardian Angel.

May our Guardian Angels help us to become guardian angels to many!
